Astana police starts learning English for EXPO-2017

Astana policemen have started learning English in the run-up to EXPO 2017, Internal Affairs Department reports.

The English classes aim to improve English language skills of the police officers. The classes are held three times a week in the Astana Department of Internal Affairs. The course started in July 2014 and will last for 4 more months.

After completing the courses, officers will have to take an exams. Those who pass the test successfully will get the certificates.

“A great responsibility lies on the metropolitan police in terms of ensuring security of city’s guests, residents and EXPO venues as well as maintaining public order during the exhibition. English language will enable police officers to effectively respond to foreigners’ requests and will improve the image of the city’s police,” the department said.

Improvement of the English language proficiency of emergency, law enforcement and healthcare services personnel is part of the preparations for hosting the EXPO in Astana in 2017
